This is the primary cause of the financial earthquake currently ripping the globe apart. Only by fixing this underlying money creation problem – that forces greed just to stay afloat – can poverty environmental destruction and unending wars be consigned to the history books.

Download Flier

Money, Money, Money… Its Creation must be a FREE Public Utility
Controlled by the People for the People!

As soon as interest is abolished on the Money Creation Process inflation becomes unnecessary. The graph shows in a very simple and straight forward way, why “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.”

Interest and Inflation Free Money “For the top 10% of the population in terms of income, an exponential growth pattern emerges. The highest earning 10% receive the interest which the bottom 80% lose! For the last 1% of the population the income column would have to be enlarged about 15 times. For the last 0.01% it would have to be enlarged more than 2,000 times. In other words, within our monetary system we allow the operation of a hidden redistribution mechanism which constantly shuffles money from those who have less money than they need to those who have more money than they need. This is a different and far more subtle and effective form of exploitation than the one Marx tried to over come. There is no question, that he was right in pointing to the source of the “added value” in the production sphere. The distribution of the “added value,” however, happens to a large extent in the circulation sphere.”

Private banks create 97% of our money supply for private profit “At the heart of our dysfunctional financial system is a remarkably poorly understood fact. Private banks create 97% of our money supply for private profit. A few simple changes to the law governing the banking system can stop the banks from blowing up the economy again in the future, and mean that we’ll never have to bail out another toxic bank. We can also remove banks’ power to create money, and use that privilege responsibly for the benefit of society and the economy as a whole.” PositiveMoney.org.uk

“The modern banking system manufactures money out of nothing. The process is perhaps the most astounding piece of sleight of hand that was ever invented…. if you want to continue to be the SLAVES of bankers and pay the cost of your own SLAVERY, then let bankers continue to create money and control credit.” Sir Josiah Stamp president of the Bank of England and the second richest man in Britain (1927)

1. We need an alternative to the current system which is unsustainable, undemocratic and unjust.

2. We are all unique people living on this planet. We stand together with ‘Occupations’ all over the world.

3. Our basic minimum demand is that:-
a) Banks must ask our permission before they put our money at risk.
b) Banks must tell us how they use our money that we give them to invest.
c) The power to create money must be kept away from both profit-seeking bankers and
vote-seeking politicians, and placed in the hands of an accountable, transparent body that is sheltered from lobbyists and electioneers.

4. We do not accept the cuts [the government's so called "austerity measures"] as either necessary or inevitable.

5. We seek an alternative to:-
a) global tax injustice, and
b) our democracy representing corporations instead of the people.

6. We want regulators and watchdogs to be genuinely independent of the industries they regulate.

7. We support all actions to defend our services, welfare, education and employment, and to stop wars and arms dealing.

8. We want structural change towards authentic global equality. The world’s resources must be protected and only go towards caring for people and the planet.

10. We demand an end to the unjust wars and oppression supported by our government.

11. We demand an end to the police and military brutality both here and in other countries.

This is what democracy looks like. Come and join us!

Ben facilitated the meeting
Sarah took the minutes.

Malcolm welcomed everyone and explained the hand signals.

CAMP UPDATE

Robert informed the group that the livestream is now up and running. The General Assemblies will hopefully be live streamed from now on.

Ben explained that the tranquility team were designed to keep the camp and occupiers safe. Volunteers are always needed for tranquility shifts, Steve asked for any volunteers to see him after the GA and a rota for up to a week in advance is being sorted out.

The camp was visited by a reporter from Meridian TV, who wants to come along and film a fly on the wall documentary about the occupy movement in Brighton. The proposal was put to allow him to come and film on Saturday 26th October. It was decided by concensus to go ahead with this. Natasha warned everyone to be careful with the main stream media, and to be clear about the message that we are sending out as a group. Everyone should be up to date on the mission statement, and the image sent out to viewers should be the correct one. Ben suggested that we use short soundbytes of about 10 or 15 seconds that keep our message precise and exact. A book is being kept at the info tent for ppl to add any short messages that could be used, when dealing with the media. Mission statement leaflets are being printed and should be available tomorrow. Natasha suggested that we get something in writing from the meridian reporter asking what their aims are. The reporter wants to come along to Occupy Brighton for another meeting before 26th October, it would be wise to use this opportunity to clarify exactly what he filming will be about. It was suggested that we ask for shared editorial control of the film.

Ruth proposed a winter warming event, with live music artists, hot chocolate, mulled fruit juice and mince pies, to coincide with the visit from Meridian television. It was decided to hold a trial event on Saturday 19th October, some thought that this would be short notice, but fliers will be printed for the event and musicians etc will be invited. A man from a poetry group, Eyes Open Poetry Collective, has offered to come along and do poetry workshops . He has been invited to the winter warming event(s). Ruth asked for as many volunteers as possible to help with this event.

There has been more interest from local students who want to come down and film for their media studies.

KITCHEN

It has been proposed to get a log book to ensure control of kitchen stock.
The Kitchen area and info tent will only be available to volunteers who are cooking or cleaning. Steve proposed a hot lunch for all occupiers, and a hot evening meal for occupiers plus guests. Tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit will be available to everyone, all day.

TENTS

The tents will all be numbered and a book to record who is on site will be kept at the info tent. Anyone staying on site, please can you register at the info tent. The camp will be restructured within the next few days, and the fire will be repositioned. Padlocks were suggested for all tents.

Apologies if these minutes are incomplete, but accidentally some pages of my notes were put on the fire !!
